Scoring and Normative Data

As described in the BMET administration manual each of the eight sub-tests provide a raw score either calculated as the total number correct or time taken (in seconds) depending on the task. In order for these to be used to determine the overall degree of cognitive impairment the raw scores must be converted into age-normed scaled scores (0-2) (See normative data for conversion tables). These scaled scores enable each test to be equally waited and combined into a BMET total score (0-16) and both an executive function (0-8) and orientation/memory sub-scale (0-8). A validation study has been completed which has identified an optimum cut-off score of ≤ 13 on the B-MET is suggestive of cognitive impairment in those with small vessel disease.

Below you will be able to download the scaled scores for each of the BMET subscales. These are based on a study including a large normative sample conducted to validate the BMET.
